An open flame is used to extinguish the oxygen inside of special glass cups which creates a temporary suction. The cup is then quickly placed on the appropriate area of the person receiving cupping treatment, usually along the back or neck, where the suction holds the cup in place. Cupping is an effective form of pain relief treatment used commonly in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) along with acupuncture.
